Walter D. Griffin, 71, of Burtchville died May 3, 2012 in his home after a short illness.

He was born September 16, 1940 in Almont, MI and has lived here since 1973. He married Sharon (Liz) Schriber on March 7, 1959 in Imlay City.

Walt was an avid hunter, loved fishing and all sports. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Above all Walt was always willing and able to help all his friends and neighbors. All who new Walt new of his gift of gab.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Liz) Griffin of Burtchville; daughters, Vicki (Nelson) Macklem of Jeddo and Kimberly (Kevin) Highlen of Lake Orion; son, Michael (Tracy) Griffin of Croswell; grandchildren, Lorraine (Bill), James (Sara), Shannon (Denny), Jason, Samantha (Ty), Joe, Timothy, Ryan, Sarah, Brandon, Riane and Charlie; 8 great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Ann Duncan, Betty (Bob) Bennett, Carolyn (Bob) Meyer, Linda (Dan) Lee, Cheryl Ann (Gary) Coscia, Deborah Wyss; brother, William LaPorte and several nieces, nephews and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy in 1977 and brothers, Carl, Jack and Jim Griffin.

Funeral services will be 11 am Monday, May 7, 2012 in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. His brother-in-law, The Rev. Jerry Schriber of Lum, MI will officiate. Burial will be in Croswell Cemetery.

Visiting will be 2-9 pm Saturday and Sunday in the funeral home.

Memorials for Walter may be made to the wishes of the family.
