Katherine E Mitchell

Katherine E. Mitchell, 92, formerly of Port Huron, Michigan, died Saturday, July 18, 2026 at her home in Millbrook, Alabama.

She was born March 12, 1934 in Port Huron to the late Jay Elmer Leathorn and Ethel Mae Leathorn-McClung. She married Frederick T. Mitchell on November 14, 1951 who preceded her in death on February 25, 2024 after 72 years of marriage.

Katherine graduated from Port Huron High School in June 1951. She dedicated countless years to St. Stephen Catholic School where she served as the school office secretary and later retired with a well-earned pension after many years as the secretary at the Rectory for Holy Trinity Parish St. Stephen Catholic Church. After retirement, she loved working on the study of genealogy, putting together puzzles and volunteering at the library.

She is survived by her children, Karen Lee Holmes-Storey (Eric Storey) and Fred T. Mitchell Jr. (Janice E. Mitchell-Myers); grandchildren, Nathan Holmes (Andrea Sample), Matthew Holmes (Lisa), Melissa Mitchell, and Allen Mitchell (Katrina Mitchell-Young); great grandchildren, Caiden Holmes, Raegan Holmes, Brayden Mitchell, Easton Mitchell, Ashton Mitchell and Casen Mitchell; many nieces and nephews; sisters, Dorothy Brothers and Vickie Lawrence (Ken); and brother, Bruce Leathorn. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jean Leathorn-Tunningly.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home, 1720 Elk St., Port Huron, MI.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 in Holy Trinity Parish St. Stephen Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Reverand Bradley Forintos will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron. Pallbearers will be Nathan Holmes, Matthew Holmes, Allen Mitchell, Caiden Holmes, Brayden Mitchell, Easton Mitchell, Ashton Mitchell and Casen Mitchell.
