Joyce I Schmitt

Joyce Irene Schmitt, 91, of Fort Gratiot, died September 25, 2026.

She was born November 9, 1934 in Kenockee Twp., to the late Leo and Marie Kennedy. She married Carl “Bill” Schmitt on September 26, 1953 in Port Huron. He died December 10, 2004.

Joyce taught for many years with the Marysville Intermediate School. She was active with the gardening club in Lexington and took great pride in her garden. Joyce was a former member of the Port Huron Yacht Club and she enjoyed sailing. She also enjoyed spending her winters in the Florida sun.

She is survived by her children, David Schmitt (Barbara Riedel), Susan Roth and Dale (Carrie) Schmitt; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and her long-time companion, Bill Heim. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jane Atkins.

A Memorial Mass will be held in June 2027.

Inurnment will be with her husband in St. Denis Cemetery, Lexington.
