Arthur H Velez

Arthur H. Velez, 71, of Port Huron died January 26, 2013 in Medilodge of Port Huron.

He was born February 17, 1941 in Detroit to Jessie H. and Lupe (Cortez) Hernandez.

Arthur was raised in Port Huron by his Aunt Frances and her husband Leopold Velez whom he called “Mother and Dad”. Later he was raised by Frances and her second husband Joe Hernandez. He worked at Anker-Holth and American Tape.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara S. Velez; sons, Art, Rick and Dean; several grandchildren; sister, Della (Peter) Mulero; sister-in-law, Nancy (John) Diaz; brother-in-law, Tim (Debra) Hall; cousins, Dan (LuAnn) McLaughlin, Michael (Debbie) McLaughlin, Kathy McLaughlin (John Kutz), Toni (Philip) Moore, Emma Garcia and many nieces and nephews.

Arthur was preceded in death by his first wife, Sharon Misch, the mother of his three boys; his parents; brother, Pelon Hernandez; cousin, Sal Garcia; aunt and uncle, Angie and Ralph McLaughlin; and his brother-in-law, Thomas John Hall.

Funeral services will be 1 pm Friday, February 1, 2013 in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Military honors will be under the direction of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.

Visiting will be from 7-9 pm Wednesday and 2-4 and 7-9 pm Thursday in the funeral home. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm Thursday.
