William “Bill” Toles, 86, died Friday, May 31, 2013 in Saginaw.
He was born May 11, 1927 in Port Huron to the late William and Wilhemenia Toles. Bill lived in Port Huron his entire life until moving to Saginaw a year ago to be closer to his daughter Lynda due to health problems. He married Julia “Ruth” Rogers on July 8, 1950 in Dearborn. She preceded him in death September 27, 2006.
Bill enlisted in the Navy at 17 years of age and spent 3 years traveling 1 ½ times around the world. He played baseball, softball and was an umpire for 53 years. He was inducted into the Port Huron Sports Hall of Fame in 2010. Bill worked at Mueller Brass for 42 years and was also a committee man and helped to write 3 contracts. He had been retired for 23 years. Bill was a lifetime member of the VFW, post 796.
He is survived by his daughters, Lynda (Jesse) Vallez of Saginaw and Brenda (Syd) Ferguson of Sarnia, ON; six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; brother, Richard (Ruth) Toles; sister, Joyce (Chuck) Lewis and son-in-law, Steve Jex.
He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Jex; brothers, Robert and Donald Toles and Edward (Marie) Jansen.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. Pastor Dan Bakay will officiate. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery.
Visiting hours are 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Monday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Port Huron Hospital Breathers Club or the American Lung Association.
