F. Granger Weil

F. Granger Weil Ft. Gratiot - F. Granger Weil, 95, died Wednesday, March 8, 2006 in Marwood Nursing and Rehab after a 2 month illness. He was born March 6, 1911 in Port Huron. He married Louise Karrer on February 2, 1935 in St. Stephen Church. His life was centered around his newspaper career owning and operating the Port Huron Times Herald. Granger and Louise spent 35 winters in Tucson, AZ and spent 10 years as full time residents of Arizona before moving back to Port Huron in 2001. He was involved in many civic activities in both Tucson, AZ and Port Huron. He is survived by his wife, Louise Weil of Ft. Gratiot; daughters, Mary Weil Smith of Berlin, MD and Ann Weil (Robert) Durand of Port Huron; son, Rev. Frank Weil, O. Carm. of Bowie, AZ; grandchildren, Alexandra Anna Smith of Ocean City, MD, Joseph H. (Susan) Smith of St. Augustine, FL, Frank Granger Smith of Berlin, MD, William Stephen (Rebecca) Smith of Pittsville, MD, Peter (Ellen) Durand of Grosse Point Park, MI, Susan (Mark) Tisdel of Rochester Hills, MI, Mary Claire Durand of Tucson, Az, Theresa Anne Durand of Tucson, AZ, Martha Louise Miller of Grosse Pointe Farms, MI and Katherine Ann Janka of Maple Grove, MN; 14 great-grandchildren; cousin Gloria Weil (Col. Mark) Jones of Williamsburg, VA; nephews, William L. (Diana) Weil of Enumsclaw, WA and Robert (Jeannie) Weil of Sacramento, CA; nieces, Joanne Weil Phoebus and Nancy Elizabeth Weil both of Largo, FL; nephew Louis A. Weil, III of Scottsdale AZ and a niece, Leigh Weil Sheilds of Scottsdale, AZ. He is preceded in death by a son Fr. John Stephen Weil, grandson-in-law, Fredrick M. Miller; brothers, Louis A. Weil, Jr. and William L. Weil and a nephew, Lawrence Weil. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Church. The Rev. C. Paul Higdon will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visiting will be from 9 a.m. until the service time Saturday at church. Memorials may be made to the Zion Carmelites, Mercy Hospital Peoples Clinic or the Community Foundation of St. Clair County. Pallbearers will be Peter James Durand, Joe, Frank and William Smith, Bill and Robert Weil. Honorary pallbearers will be Louie Dunn, Bernie Lyons, William Welch, Ralph Polovich, Jerry Brown and Dennis Sterosky.
