Gerald Eagling

Gerald Lee Eagling, 79, died suddenly Sunday July 9, 2006 at home from ongoing heart problems. He was born September 22, 1926 in Memphis, MI. He married Ruth E. Bishop on March 29, 1947. Gerald was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a utility worker for the City of Port Huron. He also worked for Vernors and became president of their union. He had a great love for photography. He recorded his own radio messages that were broadcast around the world. He loved target shooting and guns. He was a gifted artist. He was the first president of the Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Club. He is survived by his wife, Ruth E. Eagling of Port Huron; daughters, Diane (Charles) Sopha and Sandy (Mike) Varty, both of Port Huron, Barbara Simpson and Jamie (Ken) Catanzaro, both of Fort Gratiot, Renae (Larry) Smith of Smiths Creek and Jill Marlow of Fairburn, GA; son, Robert (Julie) Eagling of Newnan, GA; daughter-in-law, Alexandra "Sandra" Eagling of Ft. Gratiot; former son-in-law, Gary Simpson of North Street; 28 grandchildren; 1 step granddaughter; 17 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a son, Jack Eagling; son-in-law, Robert Marlow and a sister, Doris Clouse. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. Larry Brown, minister of the Port Huron Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Sopha, Mike Varty, Ken Catanzaro, Larry Smith and Robert Eagling. Visiting hours are 2-4 & 7-9 Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Military rites will be under the direction of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council. Memorials may be made to the Church of Christ.
