John Steinborn

John J. (Jack) Steinborn, 90, of Port Huron, died in his home Saturday, August 5, 2006 after a long illness. He was born August 17, 1916 in Port Huron and was a lifelong resident. He married Pauline Zotter on May 20, 1950. Jack graduated from the University of Detroit with a Chemical Engineering degree. After college he joined the Navy during WW II and was commissioned as an Engineering Officer from 1944 through 1946. After his discharge, Jack was plant engineer at Morton Salt Company until purchasing Jones Monument Co. in 1954. He then created Crescent Corporation, a manufacturer of orthopedic equipment. Jack was active in many Port Huron Organizations and was a lifetime member of St. Mary Catholic church. A gifted musician, Jack played throughout the county with his band, Jack's Commanders. He entertained us all with his dexterity on the piano and could play almost all the string instruments - the banjo being his favorite. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Pauline; sons, Mark (Catherine) of New York, Paul (Lisa) of Port Huron and John (Melissa) Steinborn of Berkeley; daughters, Mary Beth Steinborn of Port Isabel, TX, JoAnn (Chris) Edick of East Lansing and Stacie Frabis, Sally Steinborn and Colleen Spiers, all of Port Huron; grandchildren, Mike Frabis, Emma Steinborn and Sophie and John Paul Steinborn. A niece, Bridget Parker and a nephew, Dick Bodley also survive. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marion Steinborn and Elizabeth Bodley. Godspeed on your Sentimental Journey Home. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary Church. The Rev. C. Paul Higdon will preside. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his sons, Mark, John and Paul Steinborn, his grandson, Mike Frabis and his son-in-law, Chris Edick. Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
