Robert James Kelly Littlefield Twp. - Robert James Kelly, 93, died Tuesday, August 8, 2006. He was born June 17, 1913 in Port Huron. He was married for 67 years to the former Doris Young of Marine City. Mr Kelly completed his public schooling in Port Huron and attended Port Huron Junior College. In 1935 he earned a degree in Business Administration at Michigan State University where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Robert retired on March 1, 1975 after 42 years in the Public Relations Department of the Detroit Edison Company. He held memberships in the Edison Boat Club, Edison Athletic Association, Power Club, Business Club and Luminary Club. He was most proud of being an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. His professional affiliations include the National Association of Cost Accountants, the National Shade Tree Association, the Michigan Forestry and Park Association and the Supervisors Inter-County Committee. Mr. Kelly served as president for the Detroit Chapter of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), he was active in numerous civic organizations including the Greater Detroit Board of Commerce; Detroit Central Business District Association; Council of National Defense; Board of Directors of the Boy's Committee of Detroit; Educational Committee of Warren Chamber of Commerce; Greater Detroit Area Hospital Council and the Inter-County Highway Committee. Mr Kelly was a member of the St. Joan of Arc Parish in St. Clair Shores for over 55 years where he was an active member and president of the Ushers Club, Finance Committee and Holy Name Society. He is survived by his wife Doris Kelly; son, Robert (Terry) Kelly: daughter, Patricia (Dan) Steffes; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and a sister, Barbara O'Brien. He was preceded in death by his son, James Kelly; brother, William Kelly; sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Tom Draper. A Memorial Mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Marysville. The Rev. Arthur R. Baranowski will officiate. The family will receive friends in the gathering area at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the 10 a.m. service. Inurnment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery immediately following the Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
