Paid Obituary for Keith J. Peterson Keith J. Peterson, 54, of Port Huron, died Saturday, September 8, 2007 in his home after a five month illness. He was born August 12, 1953 in Detroit and has lived in Port Huron since 1979. Keith married the love of his life Darlene M. Dowling August 1, 1987 in Port Huron. He was a graduate of Warren Woods High School. Together with his wife, Darlene he owned and operated the Day Break Cafe and Cheap Charlie's. Keith was an avid sports fan and sponsor of many local youth sports programs. He was a great Tiger fan and also rooted for the Lions. Keith loved his classic cars and "Cruise Night". He was also an avid NASCAR fan and loved water sports, especially boating. He was a strong supporter of scouting, particularly Boy Scout Troop # 168. He enjoyed family ski trips and was a health enthusiast. He loved his hours spent at the Birchwood Athletic Club. He was a member of St. Mary Parish. E was instrumental in beginning the Ft. Gratiot Business Association and was president of it. The most important thing in Keith's life was his family: Darlene and their sons. In January of 1995 Keith made a life changing decision as he quit drinking and joined A.A. He was a casual and personable man with whom anyone could feel at ease and comfortable, and he inspired several other people to make the same positive choices in life that he had made. Keith is survived by his wife, Darlene; his sons, Derek J. a student at U. of M., Brendan K. a student at M. S. U., Spencer "George" and Rylee O. Peterson, both of Port Huron; mother, Mildred C. Korbas of Ft. Gratiot; brothers, Charles (Nancy) Peterson of Cadillac, MI and Steven Peterson of Croswell; sisters, Laura Dean-Bonnell of Big Rapids, MI and Gail (Tom) Kotsko of Eureka, MO; sister-in-law, Daryl (Sandy) Peters of Sterling Heights; father-in-law, Francis Dowling of Ft. Gratiot; sisters-in-law, Christine Vernon of Saginaw and Sharal Burton of Brown City, Linda Dowling of Saginaw and brother-in-law, Francis Dowling of North Branch; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins and dear friends, Mike Whaling of Port Huron and James Vaness of suburban Ruby. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Peterson, his brother Kenneth Peterson and his step-father, Ernie Korbas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary Church. The Rev. Simeon T. Iber, Pastor, will preside. Pallbearers will be Derek and Brendan Peterson, Tom Kotsko, Duke Dunn, Kevin Loviska, Rob LeGrow and John Anter. Visiting for Keith is Tuesday from 2 to 8:00 p.m.at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and on Wednesday beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church.
