Edward Powers

Edward James Powers, 72, of Fort Gratiot died Tuesday, January 17, 2017.

He was born February 3, 1944 in Detroit to the late James and Esther Powers. He married Kimberly S. Loehnis on May 20, 1990 in Detroit.

Edward served in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1968. He was employed as a Fireman for the City of Detroit from 1969 to 2001, retiring as Captain. He was an active member of the Detroit Fire Department Clown Team and owned Casey’s Pub in Corktown from 1983 to present.

He is survived by his wife Kimberly; son, James (Julie) Powers; daughters, Heather (Daniel) Sauter and Andrea Huizar; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Wes & Reca Loehnis.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2017 in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

Memorial Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. Deacon Timothy Maxwell will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Burn Center.
