Adele Devereaux Parker

September 15th, 1917 to May 8th, 2010






Adele I. Devereaux Parker, passed away Saturday, May 8, 2010, in her home.

She was born September 15, 1917 in Port Huron and was a lifetime resident and one of the oldest living Alumna of St. Stephen's School.

Adele was 92 years of age at the time of her death. In spite of the many challenges she faced throughout her life, she loved her life in this world. She was almost totally deaf her entire adult life and at the age of 86, her hearing was restored by 66% through a cochlear implant..

She was a longtime employee of the Port Huron Times Herald. Adele mastered working a computer while in her early 80's. She was a master bridge player and almost always won any card game she ever played.

Because of her trust in God she was not afraid to die. She said she was also very curious and quite anxious to experience what lay ahead in the next life.

Adele is survived by her children, Fr. Thomas William Devereaux of Cloverdale, CA, James H. (Judy) Devereaux of Cadillac, Mary Elizabeth Terhune of East China Twp., Joan Louise Devereaux of Port Huron and Barbara Ann (Bruce) Brogden of Camlachie, Ont.; step-daughters, Nancy (Sanford) Justus and Shiela (John) Wittbrodt; step-sons-in-law, Richard May and Michael Schrader; 11 grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William H. Simpson and Agnes Adele Duchene Simpson; brothers, Harvey Simpson, Attorney William Simpson, Major Clare Allen Simpson USAF, Howard Simpson and Michael Simpson; her first husband and the father of her children, Dr. John Ryan Devereaux; her second husband, Melvin John Parker; her son-in-law, Andrew R. Terhune; grandson, Joseph Matthew Michelz II; step-daughters, Sue May and Rebecca Schrader and step-son-in-law David Schrader.

Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Church, Port Huron. Her son, the Rev. Thomas Devereaux will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Visiting hours are 4-8 p.m. Tuesday with a scriptural rosary at 7:30 p.m. at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and from 9:30 a.m. until the service time Wednesday at church.

In lieu of flowers, masses or memorial donations may be made to St. Peter's Church, 491 S. Franklin St., Cloverdale, CA 95425 or St. Mary's Church, Port Huron.
