Arthur F. Anter

February 18th, 1936 to February 1st, 2011
Arthur F Anter, a truly amazing man, chose to leave us on February 1, 2011 to join the love of his life in Heaven. -

Arthur was born February 18, 1936 in Port Huron, Michigan to Charles J (Jack) and Lillian Anter, where he grew up attending St. Stephens Catholic school with his three brothers, George C (Marilyn) , Charles John (Judith), and David V Anter (2005). He enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Korean War.

He returned to begin a lifelong career in the hospitality industry managing the Colony Bar and Satellite Lounge, and, along with his wife Joan owned and operated Arties Lunch and Lounge, Arthurs Restaurant and Lounge and later, Martini Joes.

On November 2, 1958, he married the love of his life Barbara J (Joan) Wallace, from London Ontario He loved her with the whole of his heart and was devastated when she died in 1987 but bravely carried on to raise six very proud children and five amazing grandchildren.

Art touched so many lives throughout the years with his generosity. He was involved with many charities and organizations over the years including March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, United Way and his own Foot the Bill which allowed him to take many special needs children to enjoy trips to Tiger Stadium. He also sponsored and coached many baseball and sports teams. However his greatest contributions came from his heart. He always had time for people. He instinctively provided emotional support, financial support, advice, strength, counsel, a kind word, a stern word, a hand, a heart, or a smile; whatever someone needed to make it through.

He will be eternally missed by his profoundly sad and extremely proud children; Cheryse M, Charles J (John), Michelle M (Clark), Jami M (Marty) Sopha, Angela M, and Stacey-Lynn M (Jason Hills), and grandchildren Sydni J and Jarid M Sopha, Clinton T L(Tyler), Garrett L, and Cassidy J Vincent, and several very special nieces and nephews, and one very special four-legged friend Buddy.

Mass of Resurrection will be 11 am Friday in St. Stephen Catholic Church. The Rev. Brian K. Cokonougher will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery with military honors under auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.

Visiting hours will be 12 noon to 9 pm Thursday and 9am to 10:15am Friday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 3pm on Thursday.

Memorials may be made to the University of Michigan Hospital
