John M. McEachern, Jr.

November 18th, 1924 to August 7th, 2011
John “Jack” M. McEachern, Jr., 86, of Port Huron died August 7, 2011 in Port Huron Hospital after a short illness.



He was born November 18, 1924 in Port Huron to the late John M. and Ida McEachern, Sr. He married Bette Ann Schmitt on October 5, 1946 in St. Stephen Catholic Church.



John served in the United State Army during World War II from 1943 to 1945, receiving the Purple Heart. He worked for several years at Peerless Cement Company and retired from the United States Post Office in 1986. He was a member of the Charles Hammond American Legion Post # 8, former member of the l.OOM # 158, Elks lodge # 343, and the Eagles in Florida. He was an avid golfer and Detroit Tigers fan, but most of all, he loved his family very much.



John is survived by his wife Bette Ann McEachern of Port Huron; daughters Jackie (Al) Truskowski of Byron Center, MI, Peggy (Bob) Cooley of Ft. Myers, FL and Kim (Larry) Soulliere of Ruby; grandchildren Sean, Scott, Jon, Matt, Christopher, Timothy, Brianna and Jeff; seven great-grandchildren; sisters Janet Moses of Clyde and June Short of Ludington.



He was preceded in death by his sisters Marian Cairns, Helen Wagner and Josephine McNeil.



Funeral services will be 10am Thursday, August 11, 2011 in St. Stephen Catholic Church. The Rev. Brian K. Cokonougher will officiate. Military honors will be held under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.



Visiting hours are 2-4 and 7-9 pm Wednesday, August 10, 2011 in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 9:30 am till the time of service Thursday at the church. A Rosary will be recited 7 pm Wednesday in the funeral home.



Memorials in John's name may be made to Blue Water Hospice.
