Edwin O Winkworth

Ned Winkworth, 92, died Sunday, January 27, 2013, after a short illness.

He was born July 1, 1920 in Detroit. He married Dorothy M. Barker on December 6, 1943 in Grosse Pointe.

Ned served in the U. S. Navy on the attack transport, USS Lyon. He served in both the Italian and North African Campaigns and received a purple heart. He was the owner/operator of Winkworth Fuel & Supply and in the 1960’s began the Winkworth Transit Company in Port Huron.

Ned was always involved with sports and enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball, Babe Ruth Baseball and CYO Basketball. Ned spent every summer of his life at the family summer cottage on Harsens Island.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his sons, Douglas (Mary Beth), Paul (Susan) and David; grandchildren, Rob, Maura, Leslie and Alex; great grandchildren, Madison, Owen and Lauren.

A Mass of Resurrection will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Port Huron. The Rev. Joseph Gagnon will officiate.

Visiting hours will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and Friday from 9 a.m. until the service time at the church.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Macular Degeneration Research.
