Elizabeth J. "Betty" Martin Port Huron - Elizabeth J. "Betty" Martin, 87, died Monday, March 3, 2008, after a brief illness, She was born July 12, 1920 in Detroit and lived in the area most of her life. Her husband Max O. Martin preceded her in death on August 10, 1972. Betty was a volunteer at Port Huron Hospital for over 35 years. She was a den mother for the Boy Scouts, a Girl Scout leader for 12 years, and a volunteer for Easter Seals and the American Heart Association. Betty served on the Girl Scouts board and also the board of Visiting Nurses. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Port Huron. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dennis E. and JoAnn Martin of Dunwoody, GA and their children, Thomas and Stephen Martin of Flagstaff, AZ; her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Beth and Louis Miorelli of Conyngham, PA and their children, David (Kristy) Miorelli of Hazleton, PA and Paul (Rachel) Miorelli of Kingston, PA; her great-granddaughters, Elizabeth, Jessica and Tessa; several nieces and nephews including, Robert and Ruth Anne Bales and their children, Maggie and Michael, Dennis and Chris Bales and their children, Jeremy and Timmy, Mary Ann and Nick Drummond; special nephew and niece, Thomas and Lisa Bales and their children Tommy and Olivia; many good neighbors and friends including P.J. and Bernie Havel and JoAnne King Westrick. She is preceded in death by her husband, Max O. Martin; her parents, Mary M. and Frederick D. LaForge; 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Funeral services will by 11 a.m. Friday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. The Rev. David Gladstone, Pastor of First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 10:30 a.m. Friday until the service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or Port Huron Hospital.
