Richard Schock

April 12th, 1950 to July 10th, 2008


Richard F. Rico Schock, 58, of Port Huron, died suddenly, July 10, 2008 in Mercy Hospital Emergency Room of a heart attack.

He was born April 12, 1950 in Sandusky but was a lifelong resident of Port Huron.

Rich married the former Deborah A. Brohl August 4, 1973 in Port Huron.

He was a 1968 graduate of Port Huron Catholic High School and received his Associates Degree from St. Clair County Community College. He was employed with the ARC of St. Clair County for 31 years as associate director and will be greatly missed by the staff and participants. He was a member of the board of directors of the Arc; chair person of the ARC Golf Outing for the past 9 years, raising over $150,000.00; volunteered as chair person of bingo; was instrumental in obtaining for the ARC, a government contract making plastic pails and was a highly regarded employee serving on the agencys executive committee. He served on several United Way campaigns and was the recipient of the 2005 United Way Recognition Award for Division Chairs Campaign. He was a past recipient of Womens Association for Mentally Retarded Award for Community

He was an avid golfer, voracious reader and loved to play guitar. He was a member of the Cornerstone Church #2 softball team and enjoyed collecting nautical memorabilia. He loved spending time with his family who will deeply miss his physical presence.

Rich is survived by his wife, Debbie; twin daughters, Andrea D. (Rob) Emigh and Jessica L. (David) Fye, all of Port Huron; a grandchild expected in February, 2009; his mother, Margaret K. Schock of Port Huron; brother, Donald (Mary) Schock of Dearborn; mother and father-in-law, Ila and Bob Brohl of Port Huron; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Marcia (Kevin) Quandt of Burtchville, Bob (Aimee) Brohl of Chicago, IL, Lisa Epley, Karen Goodwine and Dan Brohl, all of Port Huron; nieces and nephews, Alison Schock, Beth Schock, Matthew Quandt, Lindsay Quandt, Evan Brohl Alyce Epley, Jeff Goodwine and Pam Goodwine and several aunts, uncles, cousins and countless good friends.

Rich was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Schock.

The funeral liturgy will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Church of Holy Trinity Parish with Rev. R. Brian K. Cokonougher, Pastor presiding.

Visiting hours in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home are 5 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday. The Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. Sunday. There will be additional visitation on Monday in St. Joseph Church beginning at 9:30 a.m.

For those wishing to express sympathy, the family prefers memorials to the ARC of St. Clair County.

Rich always said never pass up a hug or kiss because you will never get that moment back.
