Fred Mechan

Fred C. Mechan, 71, went to be with the Lord on August 3, 2008. Fred was born January 1, 1937 in Clyde Twp., Michigan, son of the late Ambrose B. Mechan and Emily Grace (Rutkauski) Mechan. He married Mary Ellen Pelton on May 4, 1963 in St. Joseph, Michigan. She died January 5, 2007. Fred was a residential builder by trade. He was employed at Armstrong Trucking for 12 yrs. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Fred loved to buy cars, etc. to fix up, helping neighbors and friends and attending church dinners. Fred was preceded in death by his brothers Bernard Mechan & Wilfrid Mechan, sisters Josephine Hess, Charlotte Kleitch, & Mildred Sikes. He is survived by daughter, Tamara A. (John) Cuthbertson of Fort Gratiot; sons Greg A. (Shannon) Mechan of Grand Rapids and Frederick A. Rick Mechan of Port Huron and daughter Mary Rose (Tim) Nave of Canton; grandchildren Christine R., Rachael M . , John R. JR Cuthbertson and Sarah A. and Emily M. Mechan. He is also survived by a brother C. Edward (Rosemary) Mechan and sisters Genevieve Kubek, Marie Hunter, Betty J. Ward, Beverly J. (Gary) Thorley & F. Ann (Jerry) Deckert and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday in St. Mary Catholic Church; Rev. Simeon T. Iber, pastor will officiate. Cremation has taken place. A family internment service will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation is 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Sunday in the Karrer Simpson Funeral Home and 9 am Monday at church. A rosary will be recited at 7 pm Sunday. Memorials in memory of Fred may be given to St. Mary Catholic Church.
