Edward J Skotcher

Edward J. Skotcher, 85, of Fort Gratiot, died Wednesday, December 18, 2013, in his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born June 23, 1928 in Detroit. He married Valeria M. Mallon on May 12, 1951 in Bowling Green, OH. She died on June 8, 2009.

Edward and Valeria owned and operated the Lakeshore Motel for 39 years. He retired from the city of Eastepointe.

In the 1960’s he became involved with the East Detroit Little League. When he learned his son could not play baseball due to no parents involvement, he become involved. He and a group of the parents developed Memorial Park’s baseball diamonds.

Edward joined the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #3702 when it was on Meadowlawn. He served as the secretary and was very involved with the club until he could no longer drive. He loved playing Santa Claus for the kids.

He played euchre at the Eagles every Monday night and sang karaoke where ever he could. He also loved to sing with the band, Straight Shooter. He would sing Eric Clapton’s “Wonderful Tonight” to his wife who had dementia. People still remember the way he danced with her.

He is survived by his daughter, Valerie A. Skotcher; two sons, Edward Skotcher and Gerald J. (Shannon) Skotcher; grandchildren, Joe (Tammy), Jason (Trina), Lisa, Toni, Kelly and Danaka Ruth Skotcher; great grandchildren, Bo Devroy, Tanner, Tyson, Taelynn, Sawyer and Owen Skotcher; sister-in-law, Ann Skotcher; and his dog, Her She. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Skotcher; and his dog, Black Dog.

The family will honor him on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at the Eagles #3702; 2645 Howard street, Port Huron, MI 48060 from 1 to 4 p.m. If you remember his love for his community, his customers, his Eagles club, and his family, we ask you to remember him with a donation to the Eagles #3702 Childrens Christmas Fund.
