Madeline Simpson

Madeline K. Simpson, 99, of Fort Gratiot, died Monday, April 7, 2014 in Barss Residential Care.

She was born January 8, 1915 in Port Huron to the late Benjamin J. Karrer Jr and Helen Olive Karrer and was a lifelong area resident. She married Howard A. Simpson on February 22, 1941 in Detroit. He died on September 3, 1995.

Madeline was a graduate of St. Stephen High School. She was a life member of the League of Catholic Women and a life member and past board member of Mercy Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a life member of the Port Huron Hospital Auxiliary and a former board member of Port Huron Town Hall.

Madeline and Howard owned and operated the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home in Port Huron for many years.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas K. (Julie) Simpson of Port Huron and The Reverend David T. Simpson, O.Carm of Garnett KS; two daughters, Mary L. (Milton) Littlefield of Tequesta, FL and Elizabeth A. Durham of Paducah KY; five grandchildren, Thomas K. Simpson Jr. of Port Huron, Milton L. (Elissa) Littlefield III of Tampa FL, Sarah J. Simpson of Kalamazoo, Andrew Durham of Paducah KY

and Stephen Durham of Paducah KY; 3 great grandchildren, Kierstyn, Alexandra and Ethan; sister, Helen Karrer of Evanston, IL and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard A. Simpson, her sisters, Katherine K. Sheridan Flynn and Louise Weil and a daughter-in-law, Nancy A. Simpson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Edward on the Lake Catholic Church. The Reverend David T. Simpson O.Carm. will officiate.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014 in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home, 1720 Elk Street, Port Huron and from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014 in the church.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
