Virginia A Wittliff

January 26th, 1938 to June 5th, 2014
Virginia Ann Wittliff, 76, of Lakeport, died at her home on the morning of June 5, 2014 due to complications from Neurofibromatosis.

She was born on January 26, 1938 in Port Huron and was the first of seven children to the late John S. Wittliff II and Margaret Heaney Wittliff.

She is a 1955 graduate of St. Stephen’s High School in Port Huron and earned a Bachelor’s degree from St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana in 1959. She earned a Master’s degree in history from the University of Detroit and spent 37 years as a junior high teacher in Port Huron and Utica.

She was an avid reader who enjoyed dining out and visits with her siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews

She is survived by her sister, Mary Wittliff of Lakeport; four brothers, Mickey (Belle) Wittliff of Smiths Creek, Thomas (Kathleen) Wittliff of Port Huron, Philip Wittliff of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Frank Wittliff of Port Huron; sister-in-law, Diana MacJennett Wittliff of Fort Gratiot; four nieces, Kathleen Frank of Lancaster, California, Andrea Wittliff of Corunna, Ontario, Sarah Wittliff of Shorewood, Wisconsin and Stephanie Wittliff of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; four nephews, Patrick (Tammy) McDonald of Jeddo, Ryan McInnis of Marysville and Philip John Wittliff of Pewaukee, Wisconsin and Michael Coulter Wittliff of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Virginia is preceded in death by her brother, John S. Wittliff III, who passed away in 2006.

A Mass of the Christian Burial celebrating Virginia’s life will be offered by Father Brian K. Cokonougher at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 9, 2014 in Holy Trinity Parish - St. Stephen Catholic Church.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Nieces and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2014 in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Monday in the church.
