Edwin G Schultz, III
June 15th, 1952 to September 25th, 2014
Beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, Edwin George Schultz, III, age 62 of Fort Gratiot, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 25, 2014, in the University of Michigan Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, after a heroic, fourteen year battle with heart disease.
He was born June 15, 1952, in Mount Clemens to Vivian Pearl Fogarty and Edwin George Schultz, II, and graduated from Port Huron Catholic High School in 1970.
After high school, Ed attended Central Missouri State University and St. Clair County Community College where he earned two Associate’s Degrees - one in Graphic Design and one in Culinary Arts & Restaurant Management.
He served honorably from 1971 to 1974 in the United States Air Force as a Sergeant at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri and with the 52nd Security Police Squadron at Spangdahlem Air Base in West Germany. A Vietnam Era veteran, he was proud of his service to the United States.
While in the military, Ed married his best friend and high school sweetheart, Linda Molinaro on Friday, July 13, 1973, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Port Huron.
Ed worked in a variety of restaurants and retail settings as a manager during his early life, eventually earning a real estate license and becoming a broker with Caldwell Banker. His most enduring and lasting legacy, however, was as an extraordinary homemaker and stay-at-home Dad to his two daughters, Ann Marie Schultz and Melissa Lynn Schultz.
Ed adored music and spent nearly twenty years serving St. Joseph’s Catholic Church by singing tenor in the choir as a member of the Celebration Singers under the direction of Sister Gloria Korhonen. He also taught CCD classes there for several years.
Ed loved his wife and his family, and spent many evenings talking on the phone with loved ones. He loved to watch FOX News and to argue politics. An avid reader, he spent countless hours perusing political biographies as well as science fiction and fantasy novels. He loved vacationing at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island and at Walt Disney World. He was passionate about cooking and made delicious meals, including beef stew and chili. Ed loved comic books, superheroes, History Channel documentaries, NASA, Star Trek, adopting funny accents, and making people laugh.
Ed was a remarkable man with a gentle soul and a kind heart. He had a great sense of humor and the determination to overcome whatever obstacles came his way. He will be sorely missed, yet fondly remembered, by all those who had the honor of knowing him.
Ed was a doting husband, an amazing father, and a loving brother. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Linda Schultz; his two daughters: Ann M. Schultz of Fort Gratiot, MI, and Melissa L. Schultz of Marysville, MI; his eight brothers and sisters: Thomas C. (Vivian) Schultz, Paul M. (Debra) Schultz, Sr., Marie Ann Schultz, JoAnn Sturdevant, James L. (Linda) Schultz, Christopher M. Schultz, Pamela Ann Perry, and Robert R. (Angie) Schultz; his sisters- and brothers-in-law: Kathy A. Molinaro and Mary J. (Scott) MacDonald; his father-in-law: Joseph Molinaro; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends; and his dog, Aidan.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edwin George Schultz, II, and his mother, Vivian Pearl Fogarty.
Visitation will take place at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home in Port Huron on Tuesday, September 30th, from 2 to 8 PM.
A funeral mass will be held at Holy Trinity Parish-St. Joseph Catholic Church in Port Huron on Wednesday, October 1st, at 10 AM, with visitation preceding the service at 9AM. The Reverend Brian K. Cokonougher will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery with military honors under auspices of the U.S. Air Force and the Veteran's Honor Guard Alliance.
