Robert
Wayne Bob Stevens, 82, passed away peacefully at home after a
long illness on Thursday, February 12, 2009, with his loving wife by
his side.
Mr.
Stevens was born November 12, 1926, in Port Huron and was a lifelong
resident. He married Sally M. McFarlane at St. Stephens Church in
Port Huron on May 15, 1948.
Bob
was a very special and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was
an unending source of wisdom and advice to his family and will be
dearly missed.
Friends
and family will remember Bob most for his honorable career as a
letter carrier in Port Huron, retiring on December 1, 1986 after 26
years of service. He was a member of the National Association of
Letter Carriers for over 50 years. Before working for the Postal
Service, Bob worked as a chemical engineer for Johnson & Johnson.
Bob was a lifelong member of St. Marys Catholic Church of Port
Huron.
He
is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Sally; four children,
Carol (Alan) Sturdevant of St. Clair; Mark (Pam Basone) Stevens of
Chicago, IL; Lori (Frederic) Webb of Port Huron; Lynn Stevens of Port
Huron; eight grandchildren: Jack (Krista) Hillis, Lee Ann Hillis,
Danial (Lauren) Hillis, Alessandra Stevens, Andrea & Jordan Webb,
Nicholas Kovacs and Robert W. Miller and six great-grandchildren:
Jackson and Brendan Hillis, Christopher and Brian Hillis, Lake and
Liam Shannon. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Lorne (Mona)
Vokes; sisters-in-law: Geney Stevens, Edna McFarlane, Betty Meyer,
Shirley (Duane) Fowler; sister, Judy of Arizona and several aunts,
uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, Walter P. and Gladys Stevens,
sister, Marion Vokes and brother, Walter P. Stevens, Jr.
Visiting
hours will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday and 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Karrer-Simpson
Funeral Home and Monday from 9:15 a.m. until the service time at
church.
Funeral
Mass will be 10 a.m., Monday in St. Mary's Church, Port Huron. The
Rev. Simeon T. Iber will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope
Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his daughter Lynn and his
grandchildren.
Memorials
can be made to St. Marys Church or the St. Clair County Chapter of
the American Red Cross.
