John W. "Jack" Dell
August 22nd, 1920 to January 21st, 2015
John W. “Jack” Dell, 94, of North Street, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 after a brief illness.
He was born August 22, 1920 in Port Huron to the late John and Ada Dell.
John began his career at the Detroit Edison Company in February 1941 with an interruption for military service with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a veteran of five campaigns in Europe that included Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe and was awarded the Bronze Star. On October 8, 1948, he married Lois M. Bell in Port Huron. They were married 66 years. John retired from Detroit Edison as maintenance supervisor in September 1985 after 44½ years.
John was a long time member of Griswold Street Baptist Church where he faithfully attended and involved himself with various projects. He enjoyed woodworking, making bird houses, duck carving and collecting tools.
He is survived by his wife, Lois; three children, John (Carole) Dell, Susan (Darrell) Lonie and Thomas (Jill) Dell; eight grandchildren, Erin, Jonathan, Breanna, Jeffrey, Justin, Adam, Aubree and Andrea; six great grandchildren, Ragan, Evelyn, Noah, Eli, Milo and Jack; former daughter-in-law, Peggy L. Dell; a sister, Shirley (Alan) Crawford; two brothers, Donald (Dorothy) Dell and Robert (Mary Lou) Dell; sister-in-law, Janet (Donald) VanDommelen; brother-in-law, David Bell; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy, Marion, Gladys, Phylis, Betty and Marjorie; and brother, Jim.
Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Friday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2015 in Griswold Street Baptist Church. The Rev. James Pettit and Dr. Tim North will officiate.
Burial will be in Kinney Cemetery, Clyde Township. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
