Elizabeth C. Bettie
Sopha, 87, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009 in Port Huron Hospital.
Bettie was born November
27, 1921 in Port Huron and was a lifelong resident of Avoca. She
married Joseph L. Sopha on November 9, 1940 at St. Joseph Catholic
Church, Port Huron. He preceded her in death.
Bettie retired from Blue
Water Aggregates in 1991. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of
Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Emmett. She enjoyed her family and her
farm.
Bettie is survived by her
children, Daniel C. (Nelda) Sopha of Tustin, MI, Julianne M. Hutson
of Lafayette, IN, Kit Priem of Riley Twp., Betty (Leonard) Readmond
of Levering, MI, Joseph L. Sopha (Sandy) of Avoca and Jennifer Phelps
(Tom) of Florence, WI; 22 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren;
sister, Flora Mae Cooper of East Lansing, brother, Thomas (Faye) King
of Burtchville and sister, Patricia (Robert) Troy of Marysville;
sister-in-law Sr. Joan Sopha, O.P. and many nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in
death by her sons Michael J. and Timothy J. Sopha.
Funeral Services will be
held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 3, 2009 in St. Mary's Catholic
Church, located at 1505 Ballentine St., Port Huron. The Rev Paul
Czarnota of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church will officiate.
Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Josh
and Adam Sopha, Tom and Mike Phelps, Jason Sopha, John Sopha, Clay
Hutson and Trevor Lawson.
Visiting hours are 2-4 &
7-9 Thursday, April 2, 2009 at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A Rosary
will be recited Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m.
Memorial donations may be
made to the American Heart Association.
