Margaret Richards "Peggy" Frantz

Margaret Richards “Peggy” Frantz passed away on March 21st in Port Huron.
A resident of Port Huron since 1977, she was born November 21, 1921 in Crafton, PA and was one of three children of Rose and George Richards. She was preceded in death by her brother, George Richards III and sister, Nell Offutt.
Peggy was wholeheartedly devoted to her family, a caring wife to her husband of 46 years, Alvin, and a dedicated mother to her four sons, Gary, Richard, Brian and Michael. She considered her sons and the warm and loving home she provided to them in growing up to be her proudest accomplishments. She is preceded by her husband, Alvin H. Frantz of Northampton, PA, whom she married in December 1945 and who passed away on June 17, 1991.
After growing up in Crafton and other suburbs of Pittsburgh, Peggy attended college at Duff’s Iron City Business School in Pittsburgh, and was later employed in the Pittsburgh area. She joined the Women’s Army Air Corps in 1945, meeting her future husband while in the military. She was released from military service at Beale Air Force Base in Marysville, CA with an honorable discharge, after which she returned to Crafton and married. Over the years, Peggy and Alvin lived in various locales, including Pennsylvania, New Jersey, California, Missouri and Port Huron.
Peggy was active for many years in elementary education and a spirited participant in the community, working for school districts in De Soto, MO and the Port Huron Area School District, where she retired as a secretary. She also was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and was a regular visitor to the Port Huron YMCA where she participated in water aerobics and other fitness classes. A lover of cats, Peggy counted among her passions playing bridge and watching sports activities, particularly baseball and tennis. She was a supporter of the Port Huron tennis community, where she could be found regularly cheering on her sons Richard, Brian and Michael, all of whom played competitively in Port Huron’s junior and high school tennis leagues.
Following her retirement, she also become interested in art history, studying at St. Clair Community College and traveling to Europe several times with art appreciation groups studying art at some of the most famous and renowned museums on the Continent.
Peggy was a fighter who through quiet determination and perseverance overcame two bouts with cancer to live a long and fulfilling life. She was a woman of great dignity and spirit whose quick wit, natural friendliness, grace and courage were inspiring to all who knew her.
She is survived by her sons, Gary (Susan) of Dublin, CA, Richard (Donna) of Lawrence, KS, Brian (Marie) of Woodbridge, CT and Michael of Port Huron. Also surviving are her grandchildren Matthew, Megan, Amy, Monika, Kevin, Clare, Tyler and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 28 at 11 am at Our Savior Lutheran Church with visiting beginning at 1o a.m. The Reverend Donald R. Doerzbacher will officiate. Inurnment will be in the church Memorial Garden.
Memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church.
