Richard G. Brouckaert, 82, of Port Huron, died on Thursday, April 9, 2015, in his home.
He was born May 1, 1932 in Detroit, the son of the late George H. and Agnes Brouckaert. His beloved wife, Barbara Garman Grove Brouckaert preceded him in death on June 15, 2002.
Richard served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1957 and was a member of the Algonac VFW Post 3901.
He retired from General Motors in 1990 after 32 years as an engineer. He volunteered at Port Huron Hospital, was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Port Huron and was former commander of the Algonac Power Squadron.
He was a member of state champion Grosse Pointe Woods Chapter Barbershop Quartet, loved fishing, boating and was an avid reader.
He is survived by two sons, Richard L. (Mary) Brouckaert and Brian A. (Tamela) Brouckaert; two daughters, Kathryn A. Andros and Karen L. Niver, M.D.; their mother, Theresa Ann Brouckaert; grandchildren, Janille & Lauren Andros, Kaitlyn (Dave) Marchese, Dustin Niver, Jessica, Matthew, Sarah, Andrew, Angela and Alaina Brouckaert; his brother, Camille (Cindy) Brouckaert; stepchildren, Marty and Angie Grove, Kathy and Jim Price, David and Robin Grove, Karen and David Cossu and Dan Grove; nine step-grandchildren, Jason, Megan, Allison, Lauren, Jaenelle, Jenna, Matt and Drew, and six step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister and her husband, Lorraine & Bill Kennedy.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 13, 2015, in St. Mary Catholic Church. The Reverend Zbigniew Zomerfeld will officiate.
Visitation will be 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and from 10:30 a.m. Monday until the time of service in the church.
A Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Sunday evening in the funeral home.
Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Navy and Veterans Honor Guard Alliance,
