James Zmolik
June 19th, 1927 to May 28th, 2015
Another angel was added to heaven when James J. “Jimmy, J.J.” Zmolik, 87, of Port Huron passed on Thursday, May 28, 2015.
He was born June 19, 1927 in Port Huron to the late Frank and Anna Zmolik. He married Lois Himmel in April of 1982 in Port Huron.
Mr. Zmolik joined the US Navy in 1944 at the age of 17 and also sailed on the Great Lakes. He was employed with the Grand Trunk Western Railroad for 38 years until his retirement in 1989. Jim was a lifetime member of the Charles Schoor VFW Post #796, member of Charles Hammond American Legion Post #8 and was a member of the Knights of Pythias. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and playing cards.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lois I. Zmolik; children, Joseph, James (Roxann) and John Zmolik, Larry and Thomas (Cheryl) Himmel and Cathy Himmel; 16 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; sister, Martha Arnold; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Zmolik, Agnes Wiegand and Bess Harla; and brother, Frank Zmolik.
Visiting hours will be from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Sunday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and from 9:00 am until the time of service Monday at the church.
Mass of Resurrection will take place at 10:00 am on Monday, June 1, 2015 in Holy Trinity Parish St. Stephen Catholic Church. Reverend Jeffrey Allan will officiate. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted under auspices of the United States Navy and the Veterans Honor Guard Alliance.
His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
