Marilyn M Wyllie
January 1st, 1938 to August 6th, 2015
“It’s been a great life. An amazing life.” Marilyn M. Wyllie, age 77, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2015.
She was born January 1, 1938 in St. Clair to the late Herbert and Mabel (Distelrath) Meyers. She grew up on the family farm, where life in a large family brought many adventures. At just 14 years old, Marilyn moved to “town” where she lived with Aunt Annie while working at St. Clair City Hospital. Marilyn graduated from St. Clair High School in 1955. After high school, she worked for Michigan Bell Telephone in Port Huron. She also enjoyed memorable travels with friends.
In 1963, Marilyn met Dick Wyllie at a meeting of the Adult Catholic Organization. The pair began dating soon after, and married on May 22, 1965. They made their home in Port Huron, where they raised three spirited daughters. In addition to creating a loving household, Marilyn worked for Ben Franklin variety store for more than 15 years.
Marilyn is survived by her loving husband Dick, with whom she celebrated 50 years of marriage this year. She is also survived by daughters Mary Beth Wyllie (Jason Scholz), Ann Arbor; Janet Wyllie, Grand Rapids; Carolyn Wyllie, Kalamazoo; and beloved granddaughter Miriam Wyllie-Scholz, Ann Arbor. Siblings: Sister Eileen Meyers O.P. Adrian; Marie (Don) Klemmer, St. Clair; Dorothy (Ray) Burgess, Port Huron; Loretta (Gauis) Fraley, St. Clair; brother-in-law Neil Wyllie, Port Huron; sisters-in-law Carol Meyers, St. Clair; Connie Jeffries, Richmond; Shirlee Meyers, Port Huron; Linda Wyllie, Port Huron; and Jeannie Wyllie, Orange Park, Fl. Survivors also include more than 40 nieces and nephews, 60 grandnieces and grandnephews and special neighbor Terry Troy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as brothers, Edward, Robert, Donald, Bernie and Ken and nephews Kurt and Jason Meyers.
Marilyn generously gave her time to many organizations including the Marydale Senior Center; Mercy Hospital Auxiliary; St. Mary Altar Society; Belles of St. Mary Church and the League of Catholic Women. She showed great compassion for the elderly by visiting them in their homes and nursing facilities. Marilyn cherished the euchre club she and Dick belonged to for more than 40 years. She also enjoyed both ballroom and square dancing.
Visiting hours with family are planned at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home on Sunday, August 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m., with a Rosary at 7 p.m.
A Funeral Mass in celebration of Marilyn’s life will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2015 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1505 Ballentine, Port Huron. Visiting will be 1 hour prior to the service. Private interment will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Jason Meyers Memorial Foundation, St. Vincent DePaul Food Depot, Blue Water Hospice or a charity of the donor's preference. One of the best ways to honor Marilyn’s life would be to spend time bringing joy to someone else. Pay a visit, share a swing, bake chocolate-chip cookies, weed a garden, start a sing-a-long, or simply fill the room with laughter.
