David L. Smith, 69, passed away

Wednesday, June 17, 2009 in Port Huron Hospital.

He was born September 6, 1939 in Port

Huron. He married Patricia Ann Stuart on May 18, 1963 in Port Huron.

She died September 17, 2005.

David was a graduate of Michigan State

University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts and Masters Degree. He

then earned an Education Specialist Degree from Wayne State

University. He worked for the Port Huron Area School District from

1966-2001 as a teacher and later as principal. He was instrumental

in creating the Lunch Buddy program. He was an avid golfer and

a lifelong Spartan Fan.

David is survived by his children,

Brian D Smith, Kevin M. (Maria) Smith, Lori L. (Frazier) Anthony and

Sheila A. (James) Schwertfeger; grandchildren, Cameron Anthony, Emily

Anthony, Mackenzie Smith and Nicholas Smith; sisters, Carol (Doug)

Touma and Ann Choiniere; brother, Daniel (Carol) Smith; sister, Sue

(John) Booms.

He was preceded in death by his

parents George Smith and Ruth Abdoo.

Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday

at St. Stephens Church. The Rev. Brian K. Cokonougher will

officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Visiting hours are 7-9 p.m. Thursday

and 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Friday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A

rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to the American

Diabetes Association.
