Louise Karrer Weil, 98, of Fort

Gratiot, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2009.

Louise was born June 21, 1911 in Port

Huron to Benjamin J. Karrer and Olive Hayes Karrer. She married F.

Granger Weil, long time Editor and Publisher of the Port Huron Times

Herald on February 2, 1935.

Mrs. Weil was an advocate for community

endeavors throughout her life as a member of St. Mary Catholic

Community, St. Edward Catholic Church, the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary,

the Port Huron Hospital Auxiliary and the League of Catholic Women

for which she established a Bridge Marathon. She was also a founding

member of Port Huron Town Hall and a long time member of Port Huron

Golf Club.

Her love of God and her devotion to her

faith provided great comfort during life's long run. Louise was the

keeper of memories for family and friends, new and old. Despite the

loss of her eyesight and most of her hearing, she maintained a bright

and clear spirit that was an inspiration to all who knew her.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary

W. Smith, Berlin, Maryland and Ann W. (Robert) Durand, Port Huron; a

son, Fr. Frank Weil, O.Carm., Bowie, Arizona; two sisters, Madeline

Simpson, Fort Gratiot and Helen Karrer, Evanston, Illinois; as well

as ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and many nieces and

nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband,

Granger, a son, John Stephen Weil and a sister, Katherine Sheridan

Flynn.

She will be missed by all who

surrounded her.

Her nephew, Fr. David Thomas Simpson,

O.Carm., will celebrate a Funeral Mass on Friday, July 3, 2009 in St.

Mary Catholic Church at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope

Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 to 11:00 am. Friday at the church.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons,

Peter Durand, Joe Smith, Frank Smith, Andrew Tisdel, Stephen Durand,

Robert Durand and Ted Janka. Honorary Pallbearers are her

caregivers, Cheri Allison, Beth Brown, Mary Lou Carter, Bonnie

Kibbie, Barb Moorey, Helen Prader and Kit Sawdon.

Memorials, in Louise's memory, may be

made to Zion Carmelite Community, St. Joseph Mercy Hospital

Foundation or the Community Foundation of St. Clair County.
