Leo F. Varty, 87, died Friday, July 17,

2009 in Port Huron Hospital.

He was born on April 6, 1922 in Palms,

MI to the late Fred and Julia Varty. He married Marion Louise Wright

on November 19, 1948 in Port Huron. She died January 3, 2007.

Leo was a member of St. Mary Parish

and the Fr. Welch Council 11756, Knights of Columbus. He retired

from Grand Trunk Railroad.

He is survived by his daughters,

Christine L. (Jim) Morgan of Smiths Creek and Deborah L. (Frank N.)

Stein of Fort Gratiot; grandchildren, Craig (Janet) Gerlach, II of

Greenwood, Laura (Roland) Foster of Fort Gratiot, Amy Morgan of Fort

Gratiot, Tricia L. Stein, M.D. of Winston-Salem, NC, Steven C. Stein

of Essexville; 9 great grandchildren; sister, Katherine Nye of Minden

City; sister-in-laws, Leoina Varty of Eastpointe and Maryann Varty of Arizona; brother-in-law, Archie Abbott of Deckerville and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his

brothers, Gaylord, Merle, Edward and John Varty and his grandson,

Michael Gerlach.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m.

Tuesday at St. Marys Church. The Rev. Zbigniew Zomerfeld will

officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers

will be Craig Gerlach, II, Steven Stein, Roland Foster, Dale Varty,

Ryan Foster and Nicholas James.

Visiting hours are 2-4 & 7-9

Monday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7

p.m. Monday.

Memorials may be made to Port Huron

Hospital Intensive Care Unit, St. Marys Church or Mercy Marydale

Center.
