Helen Gall
January 27th, 1930 to December 18th, 2009
Helen L. (Burns) Gall, 79, passed away
Friday, December 18, 2009, after a lengthy illness at Regency on the
Lake.
She was born January 27, 1930 in Port
Huron. She married George Thomas Gall in 1952 at St. Christophers
Church in Marysville. He preceded her in death on June 20, 2008.
Helen was a 1947 graduate of
Marysville High School. She entered the field of education earning a
bachelor's degree (WMU). Masters Degree (EMU) and a specialist
degree (MSU). A teacher for 39 years, she served actively as an
educator and PHEA Representative, Treasurer and President. She also
served as a representative at the state and national level.
She taught religious education at St.
Josephs, St. Marys and St. Stephens for many years. A former member
of St. Stephens Finance Board and Parish Council, she served as an
Ecumenical Minister.
Her father, James Burns, helped
establish St. Christophers Catholic Church in Marysville in 1935,
making Helen on of the first to participate in their first Holy
Communion class in 1937.
She was a frequent volunteer worker
for many groups, a former girl scout leader, a member of MARSP,
Secretary of Mueller Farms Board, Council on Aging Advisory Boars
(New Senior Center Building), a Black River Boat Club member serving
15 years as Treasuerer/Board Member, managed the first AARP income
tax office in Marysville Library for the disabled and /or senior
citizens for 4 years. Member of American Legionaire's Auxiliary, a
board member of the League of Catholic Women and St. Anne's Altar
Society. She was recognized five times by Who's Who in America for
her contributions to society.
She is survived by her children, Kirk
Gall of Ft. Gratiot and Peggy (Kaz) Denney-Kienig of Marysville;
granddaughter, Michelle Denney of Port Huron; great grandchildren,
Tyler and Andrew Denney of Port Huron; brother, Tom (Helen) Burns of
Sterling Heights; brother-in-law, Richard (Bobbi) Gall of Atlanta,
MI; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Koster of Chesterfield and Georgian
(Richard) Williams of White Lake; brothers-in-law, Tim (Lillian) Gall
of Fraser and Christopher (Nanette) Gall of Florida and several
nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her
parents James and Marguerite Burns.
Funeral Mass will be 12 noon Tuesday
at St. Stephens Church. The Rev. Thomas Lever will officiate.
Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visiting will be from 10:30
a.m. until the service time Tuesday at church.
Memorial may be made to St. Stephens
Church or Alzheimers Disease Research.
