Linda L Charles
Mrs. Linda Lou Charles, 82, of North Street, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2016, following a long battle with dementia.
Linda was born March 31, 1934, to the late Edward and Ruby Dyke of Croswell, Michigan. She was a 1952 graduate of Yale High School and received her Bachelor’s degree and then her Master’s degree from Michigan State University in 1967.
Linda married Erwin Charles, the love of her life, on June 14, 1952. Together they raised three children, Penny, Ronnie and Amy. They enjoyed life together on the family farm in North Street until Erwin's death in 1982.
Linda enjoyed her career as a teacher and principal for the Yale School District, retiring in 1993.
She devoted her life to her family and God, serving at the Wadhams Grove branch of the Community of Christ Church. She enjoyed a long and active retirement, traveling, teaching, singing, volunteering and giving of her time to so many people. She loved being a member of the Port Huron Musicale Women's Chorus for many years, where she could sing her heart out.
She leaves behind many family members that she loved dearly including her daughter, Amy Charles-Thrushman; sister, Sally Gardner; sisters-in-law, Monna Benner and Helen Charles; grandchildren, Christina (Bo) Hidinger, Candy (Clint) Hanza, April (Christopher) Brumm and Ryan (Ellen) Thrushman; 11 great grandchildren, Kelcey, Jodi, Taylor, Jaci, Calvin, Jeslyn, Corbin, Tyler, Miranda, Camryn and Rylen; a great-great grandson, Xavier; many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends that brought joy to her life.
Linda was also preceded in death by her son, Ronnie; her brother, Bill Sanderson; her nephew, Steven Belling; and her brother-in-law, Robert Charles. Her daughter, Penny Strauss-Cramer recently passed away July 5, 2016.
Many people have been touched by her love and kindness and appreciated her lifetime of service to her community.
Cremation has taken place. A family memorial will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are by the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.
