Dorothy M Winkworth
Dorothy M. Winkworth, former Port Huron resident, died Monday, December 12, 2016.
She was born September 4, 1921 in Detroit to the late Frank and Anna Barker. She married Edwin O. Winkworth on December 6, 1943 in Grosse Pointe.
Growing up in the Great Depression, graduating from the University of Detroit, being a young bride and mother during World War II, Dorothy was a personification of “The Greatest Generation”. However, for family and friends her life was not summed up so easily, not so simply in a resume or in a historical reference. For each of us, there was a relationship with Dorothy that was uniquely our own; just between the two of us. We love her and she will be greatly missed.
The St. Clair River was an important part of our lives with Dorothy, the river being a bit of geography with which she had a life-long affinity. She loved to share its pleasures with family and friends at “Old Comfort”, her cottage on Harsens Island.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Douglas (Mary Beth) Winkworth, and Paul (Susan) Winkworth; grandchildren, Rob, Maura, Leslie, and Alex; great-grandchildren Madison, Owen, Lauren, and Mary Olivia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ned; her son, David; her sisters, Eleanor and Lucille; and her brother, James.
A Memorial Mass and celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at St. Mary Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Reverend Zbigniew Zomerfeld will officiate.
A private family interment will take place at a later date.
