Robert John Leonard
Robert John Leonard, 87, of Marysville formerly of Port Huron, died Monday, January 16, 2017.
He was born August 31, 1929 in Detroit to the late Philip and Leonie Leonard. He married Elaine Bedard on August 17, 1957 in St. Christopher Catholic Church, Forest, Ontario.
Robert graduated from Fordson High School in Dearborn. He then enlisted in the Coast Guard from 1950-1953. He attended and graduated from the University of Detroit in 1956 with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. Robert and his brothers built, owned, and operated Indian Hills Golf Course in Forest, Ontario. They also built St. Clair Wilderness Campground in St. Clair, MI in 1970, where he owned and operated it until his retirement. He was a wonderful husband, loving father and fantastic grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Elaine; sons, Phil (Leslie) Leonard and Rich (Pam) Leonard; grandchildren, Jack Leonard, Coral Rita Leonard, and Amber Reef Leonard; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill, Phillip and Dennis.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 20, 2017 in St. Stephens Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. until the time of service. The Reverend Salvatore Palazzolo will officiate.
Burial will be in Beachwood Cemetery, Forest, Ontario, Canada.
