Flora Mae Cooper
Flora Mae Cooper, 92, of Fort Gratiot, died Sunday, February 19, 2017, in Regency on the Lake, Fort Gratiot.
She was born July 30, 1924 in Port Huron to the late Leo F. and Georgina King. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, John W. Cooper on April 3, 1942. He preceded her in death on December 28, 2006. They were married for 64 blissful years.
She was a graduate of St. Stephen High School and a member of Holy Trinity Parish - St. Stephen Catholic Church.
Flora Mae was a loving mother, who with her husband John, successfully raised 11 children (8 girls and 3 boys).
Flora Mae and John worked together, with a strong Catholic faith, for the sole purpose of directing, nurturing and loving their children.
Flora Mae is survived by her children, Constance (Edward) Houghtaling of Lansing, Christine White of Boca Raton, Florida, Cynthia (George) Crawford of Middleville, Michigan, JoAnn (Tom) Hurdle of Farwell, Michigan, Jacqueline (Bruce) Bay of Eureka, Missouri, Barbara (Elwood) Brown of Fort Gratiot, Michigan, Thomas (Tampa) Cooper of Okemos, Michigan, Jill Rogers of Port Austin, Michigan, Elizabeth (Robert) Rapson of East Lansing, James (Mary Pat) Cooper of Zionsville, Indiana and Stephan (Sharon) Cooper of Pewaukee, Wisconsin; her siblings, Thomas (Faye) King and Patricia (Robert) Troy; 31 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, John William Cooper, Jr., at the age of five, from leukemia; her parents, Leo and Georgina King; and her sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Sopha.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.in the funeral home.
Mrs. Cooper will lie in state from 10 a.m. Thursday, February 23, 2017, in Holy Trinity Parish - St. Stephen Catholic Church, until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. The Reverend Jeffrey Allan will officiate.
Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
