Larry Stuart Holmes, 75, of Lexington, died Tuesday, March 7, 2017.
He was born June 13, 1941 in Detroit, to the late Joseph and Gladys Holmes. He married Betty A. Eagen on May 14, 1991, in Roseville.
Larry served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Vietnam War. He retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1990, and worked as a bridge tender on the Military Street Bridge for the past 18 years.
He was a member of the Lexington Lions Club, Goodfellows, American Legion and the Elks Club. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Betty; three daughters, Cherie (Jerome) Vangheluwe, Brenda (Brian) McKeen and Scarlette Buhrie; his son, Rocky (Peggy) Maes; six granddaughters, Julia (Robert) Brown, Ashley (Dakota) Wayne, Courtney (Joe Weeks) Maes, Melody Buhrie, Mackenzie Maes and Alaina McKeen; three grandsons, Joel Vangheluwe, Alex McKeen and Liam Spang; great grandson, Abraham Brown; his sister, Betty (Robert) Bussenger of Florida; and nephews, Mark (Lola) Holmes, Robert (Jennifer) Buessenger, Jr. of Tennessee and Terry (Lisa) Bussenger of Illinois; and many grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jay Holmes.
Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
Mr. Holmes will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 10, 2017, in Holy Trinity Parish - St. Joseph Catholic Church, until the Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. The Reverend Salvatore Palazzolo will officiate.
Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Parish - St. Joseph Catholic Church and Leader Dogs for the Blind.
