Johanna "Joni" Amato
Johanna Grace “Joni” Amato, 74, of Port Huron, died Thursday, March 23, 2017.
Joni was born June 4, 1942, in Wyandotte to the late James and Irene Garrity. She married Joseph A. Amato on November 24, 1967, in Detroit. He preceded her in death on February 14, 2009.
Johanna was a graduate of Holy Redeemer High School in Detroit. She loved reminiscing, laughing and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Cori Amato of Port Huron; her three siblings, Patrick (Lynda) Garrity, Charlotte (Billy) Wood and Michael Garrity; her sister-in-law, Carmen (Gene) Hrynewich; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her loving grand-fur babies, Gracie and Tootsie-Bella.
Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2017, in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
Mrs. Amato will lie in state at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Stephen Catholic Church Monday morning from 10 a.m. until the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m.
Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2017, in Holy Trinity Parish - St. Stephen Catholic Church. The Reverend Salvatore Palazzolo will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Pat Garrity, Mike Garrity, Michael Hrynewich, Mark Hrynewich, Kevin Garrity, Tommy DiPonio, Anthony DiPonio and Michael DiPonio.
Memorials may be made to Blue Water Area Humane Society.
