Gary Michael Sargent

June 10th, 1953 to March 15th, 2010






Gary Michael Sargent passed peacefully in his home after a long battle with ALS on March 15, 2010.

Born June 10, 1953 to Robert and Marion Sargent of Port Huron, Gary graduated from Port Huron Northern in 1971 then served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force. He worked for Detroit Edison the rest of his life.

Gary loved to motorcycle, scuba dive, paraglide, hunt, fish, and do anything outdoors. He was a passionate cook and loved to travel. He was a member of the Knights Templer and was a Royal Arch Mason. But most of all, Gary was a great friend, superior father and grandfather and the world's best husband. He will be lovingly remembered by his family and a multitude of friends.

He is survived by his wife Janine Dionne; his mother, Marion; daughter, Elizabeth; grandchildren, Olivia, Sophia and Everett; his step-daughter, Kristin; grandchildren, Trenton and Savannah; brothers, Rick (Diane) Sargent of Florida, James Sargent of Fort Gratiot; In-laws, Lois Dionne and Dave Krause, Dan (Beth) Dionne, Rick (Vicki) Dionne, Jeff (Kathy) Dionne of Maryland, Anita (Jody) Weitzel, Michelle (Randy) Shepley, Shon (Nada) Dionne and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Robert; father-in-law Leo and sisters-in-law, Sharon and Kyran.

Funeral services will be 10 am Thursday in St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Zbigniew Zomerfeld, Pastor will officiate. Military honors will immediately follow under auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.

Visiting hours are 2-9 pm Wednesday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 9:30 am Thursday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Jim Harp, Jim Walker, Dave Fredendall, Tom Howard, Terry Preston and John McLeod.

Memorials in memory of Gary may be given to the wishes of the family.
