Craig G. Smith

Craig G. Smith, 63, of Fort Gratiot, died, Thursday, June 10, 2010 in Port Huron Hospital following a short illness.

He was born March 25, 1947 in Port Huron son of the late Gerald E and Vivian L. (Leslie) Smith.

He married Vicki L. Enos on May 17, 1975 in Lansing.

Craig was a 1965 graduate of Port Huron Catholic where he played on the state championship hockey team. He was a Vietnam veteran serving in the U.S. Navy from 1966-1970. He received his B.S. in Education from the University of Michigan and Master's Degree in Sports Administration from Wayne State University. Craig retired from Armada High School as a teacher, athletic director and coach. He devoted the majority of his life to coaching his children and high school students in various sports. He was an avid sports fan especially the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings and the University of Michigan.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki L. Smith of Fort Gratiot; daughters, Becky L. (Robert) Maynard of Silver Point, TN and Laura M. Smith of Houston, TX; grandson Isaac Maynard and soon to be granddaughter, Marley Maynard; brother, Leslie (Janet) Smith of Port Huron; sister, Renie Shannon of Ruby; brother, Robert (Mary Jo) Smith of Port Huron; special aunt, Everine Unger of Juno Beach, FL and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 am Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Zbigniew Zomerfeld will officiate. Military honors will follow under auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.

Visiting hours are 1-4 and 6-8 pm Sunday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 10:30 Monday at the church.
