Catherine Cavis
Catherine Cavis, 78, of Port Huron, died Wednesday, January 3, 2018, in McLaren-Port Huron Hospital.
She was born June 18, 1939 in Athens, Greece to the late George and Garefo Vaitsos. Catherine came to the United States and moved to Chicago IL in the spring of 1961. She was introduced to George Cavis by her uncle that same year. Catherine and George were married on March 11, 1962 in Grace Episcopal Church. He preceded her in death on May 18, 2011.
She owned and operated the Cavis Grill for 57 years and it continues to operate today. Catherine was a devoted entrepreneur and considered her clientele her family. She took great pride in presenting her clientele with her Homemade Spanakopita (Spinach Pie) and Baklava.
Catherine was blessed with three children, Dean Cavis, Mary (Tom) Perdikis and Nicholas (Maria) Cavis; four grandchildren, Georgios, Catherine, George and Theofanis; many loving relatives; all the devoted employees throughout the years at Cavis Grill; and her many cherished friends and customers whom she regarded as family. Catherine was a devout Christian and put her faith and family above all.
Visiting hours will be 2-9 p.m. Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A Trisagion Service will take place at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 8, 2018, at Grace Episcopal Church.
Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society or any Greek Orthodox Church.
Catherine’s family would like to thank the doctors and medical staff for their exceptional care and comfort they provided to her during her illness.
