Arlene J Manzel

January 22nd, 1927 to January 20th, 2018

Arlene Jane Manzel, 90, of Port Huron, passed away peacefully at Marwood Manor on Saturday, January 20, 2018, just two days shy of her 91st birthday.

She was born January 22, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Harold T. and Florence (Schuman) Simpson. She married Jack Manzel on September 6, 1945 in Georgia. He preceded her in death on December 21, 1992.

Arlene graduated from Port Huron High School in January 1945. She was active in the Port Huron City Band in the 1940-1950’s and was an accomplished trumpet/cornet player.

She retired from Prestolite Wire after 40 years of dedicated service.

Arlene loved to play bingo and the lottery and was a familiar, friendly face at several local stores. She also enjoyed bowling with several different local leagues throughout the years.

She is survived by her children, Jackquelyn (Michael) Santoro-Hunt of Sarnia, Ontario, William (Nit) Manzel of Burkburnett, Texas, Charles Manzel of Norfolk, Virginia and Judy (David) Fiedler of Port Huron; step-son, Donald (Cathy) Manzel of Irons, Michigan; step-daughter-in-law, Mary Manzel of Fort Gratiot; sister Carol (Fritz) Keener of Jeddo; and many adoring grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother, H. T. “Tom” Simpson, Jr;; sister, Jeanne Gantz; step-son, Robert Manzel; son-in-law, Loreto Santoro; and daughter-in-law, Char Manzel.

Arlene had a knack for becoming friends with everyone she met. She was “Aunt Arlene” to countless people. Her easy smile and gift of conversation will be sadly missed.

Cremation has taken place. At Arlene’s request, there will be no services.
