Walter J Carrier
Walter Joseph Carrier, 91, of Fort Gratiot, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, surrounded by his family.
He was born October 10, 1926 in Port Huron to the late Walter and Elizabeth Carrier. He married Lucy Ellen Wedge. She preceded him in death on January 15, 1983.
Walter was a graduate of St. Stephen Catholic High School and served in the United States Navy. He retired from Prestolite at the age of 61 and enjoyed 31 years of sobriety.
He was a founding member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
He is survived by his three sons, Joel (Dawn) Carrier, Timothy Carrier, and Bradley Carrier; and a special friend, Kimberly Hickman; and five grandchildren, Christopher Basney, Carissa (Gary) Haller, Mackenzie (Joseph) Lumley, Caileigh (Jacob) Barr and Thomas Kornieck; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Finch.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.
Mr. Carrier will lie in state at St. Mary Catholic Church on Monday, February 19, 2018 from 10 a.m. until the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Zbigniew Zomerfeld will officiate.
The Rite of Committal will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Navy and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
