Joseph M. Smith

Joseph Michael Smith, 67, of Fort Gratiot, died Saturday, April 28, 2018.

He was born November 21, 1950 in Corning, New York to the late Bernard and Celia Smith. He married Beatrice K. Jencks on June 11, 1988 in St. Mary Catholic Church.

Joseph sold insurance for the Knights of Columbus for more than 10 years. He always tried to do his best for his clients. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Knight of Columbus councils #11756 and #2521 and was involved in the Knights charitable works. Prior to being an insurance agent, he was employed as a manufacturing engineer.

Joseph enjoyed woodworking and tinkering, cigars on the front porch, people watching and telling jokes. He was also very proud of his sons.

He is survived by his wife, Bea; twin sons, Pete and Matt Smith; siblings, Maureen Foster, Kris (Mickey) Sullivan, Suellen Smith, David (Vickie) Smith, Terry Smith and Bernard (Jamie) Smith Jr.; several nieces and nephews; and his aunt, Margie Duffy.

Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Thursday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm.

Joseph will lie in state from 10:00 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 on Friday, May 4, 2018 in St. Mary Catholic Church. The Reverend Zbigniew Zomerfeld will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Blue Water Food Depot or St. Mary Catholic Church.
