Richard A Klaus
Richard Allen Klaus, 82, of Fort Gratiot, died Saturday, May 12, 2018.
He was born July 31, 1935 in Port Huron to the late Harold S. and Eileen D. Klaus. He married Margaret A. Glyshaw on July 23, 1960 in Port Huron. She preceded him in death on April 9, 2012.
Richard was a 1953 graduate of Port Huron High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1957 and the National Guard from 1954 to 1956 and 1958 to 1959. Richard was employed with the Port Huron Police Department from 1963 to 1990 and the St. Clair County Sheriff Department from 1990 till his retirement in 1997. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing baseball and softball as well as being an umpire.
Richard is survived by his son, Richard H. Klaus; daughter, Debra A. (Jeffrey) Cornwell; grandchildren, Leigh and Joseph Cornwell; and sisters-in-law, Brenda Klaus and Marlene Glyshaw. He was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Klaus.
Visitation will be from 2-9 pm Thursday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
Richard will lie in state from 9:30 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30 am on Friday, May 18, 2018 in St. Mary Catholic Church. The Reverend Zbigniew Zomerfeld will officiate.
Burial will follow in Ruby Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
