Preston Schroeder Sr

Preston J. Schroeder Sr, 95, died October 3, 2010 in Port Huron Hospital following a short illness.
He was born September 10, 1915 in Port Huron. He married Eleanor E. Heering on December 29, 1942 in St. Joseph Church. She preceded him in death April 29, 2005.
Preston served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves during WWII. He worked at various places including Port Huron Paper Company, Mercy Hospital, Wickes Boiler, Detroit Elevator and Vogal Electric retiring from the IBEW Local 58.
He enjoyed farming and fishing and was a charter member of St. Mary's Church. He also helped organize the Float Down in 1988.
He is survived by his children, Preston J. Schroeder Jr of Port Huron, Thomas M. Schroeder of Port Huron, Carole E. (Doug) Thornsberry of Port Huron, John D. (Caroline) Schroeder of Saginaw, Janet R. (Greg) Bugaiski of Lakeport and Paul G. Schroeder of Port Huron; 19 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren and a brother-in-law, John Heering of Port Huron.
Funeral Mass will be 11 am Wednesday at St. Mary's Church. The Rev. George Askar will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Visiting hours are 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Tuesday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 10 am until the service time Wednesday at church.
Memorials may be made to the Michigan Right to Life or St. Mary's Church.
