Jean E. Olney

Jean Edith Olney, 82, of Fort Gratiot, died Friday, June 22, 2018.

She was born September 6, 1935 in Sarnia, Ontario to the late John and Alice Kelly. She married Walter J. Olney on November 27, 1956 in Angola, Indiana.

Jean retired after 27 years of service from the Bell Telephone Company as an operator. She volunteered in the gift shop at the Thomas Edison Depot Museum and her hobbies were solving puzzles and walking. She was also known as the Popsicle Lady by the neighborhood kids. She was a deeply caring individual who loved to help other people. She always put others before herself.

She is survived by her husband, Walter; children, Kim Marie (Daniel) McKenzie and Walter Allen (Mary) Olney; grandchildren, Melissa (Corey) Zweng, Heather (Jason) Smith, Rebecca Olney (fiancé, Eljah Underwood) and Kevin Olney; great grandchildren, Cody, Kyle and Atreyu; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her eight siblings.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, June 29, 2018 in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Pastor Bill Forbes of the River Church will officiate.

Inurnment will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
