Cecilia "Ceci" Kearns

September 11th, 1948 to July 6th, 2018

Cecilia “Ceci” Kearns, 69, of Port Huron, died Friday, July 6, 2018 following a heroic eighteen year battle with cancer.

She was born September 11, 1948 in Port Huron, to Robert and Sara Kramp. She married Dennis M. “Denny” Kearns on January 27, 1967 and they were happily married for forty-three years. He preceded her in death on January 31, 2010.

Ceci had the honor of being part of the first graduating class from Port Huron Northern High School in 1966. Shortly thereafter she and Denny began their family. While raising her family she earned her degree as a registered nurse from St. Clair County Community College. Ceci worked at Port Huron Hospital for over twenty years in both the neonatal intensive care and pediatric outpatient surgical units.

She was an active parishioner at St. Mary Catholic Church, a member of the League of Catholic Women, and a participant in The Belles of St. Mary. Ceci proudly served on the committee for the Betty Kearns Little Black Dress event. In her spare time she enjoyed contributing to her community by working with the Volunteers in Police Service and served as a committee member for the Festival of Trees.

Among her many accomplishments, her proudest was the family that she and Denny created. Her children, grandchildren, and mother were the center of her being.

She is survived by her children, Denise (Mark) Richard, Christine Grossman (fiance Brad Saxton), Cheryl (Kevin) Stein, Robert (Annmarie) Kearns, along with two others that she embraced as her own, James Zwolinski and Tiffany Kearns; 9 grandchildren, Sara Richard, Austin Richard, Kerig Kearns, Brock Kearns, Peyton Stein, Grace Stein, Riley Kearns, Taylor Grossman and Addison Stein; her mother, Sara Kramp; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis M. “Denny” Kearns; her grandparents. Joseph and Josephine Pollina and Frank and Cecelia Kramp; her father, Robert Kramp, and her sister, Kathleen Devenney.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Kearns will lie in state at St. Mary Catholic Church on Thursday, July12, 2018 from 10 a.m. until the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Simeon Iber will officiate.

The Rite of Committal will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
