He was born on February 2, 1919 in Port Huron. He married Anna R. Dazer on January 25, 1941 in Port Huron. She preceded him in death on March 19, 1995.

Bud was a key player on his Port Huron High School football team, helping them win the state championship in 1937. The team was inducted into the Port Huron Sports Hall of Fame in October 1986.

During World War II, he served as a gunner aboard the USS Nicholas, the flagship of Destroyer Squadron 21. The "Nick" and two of her sister ships escorted the battleship Missouri into Tokyo Bay for the formal surrender of Japan on September 2, 1945.

After returning from the war, he worked as a freight car repairman for the Grand Trunk Western Railroad in Port Huron. He retired in 1982.

Bud was an avid hunter and shooting enthusiast. He shot competitively in many tournaments through the YMCA and the Bluewater Sportsmen's Association.
